Definition & Application
A gate valve is a common linear-motion valve used in both above-ground and
underground pipelines.
These valves are also referred to as "sluice valves" or simply "gate valves."
Design & Operation
Structure:
Consists of a valve body (installed inline in the pipeline) and a handwheel actuator for opening/closing.
The multi-turn handwheel is mounted above or to the side of the valve, connected via a stem to the bonnet assembly.
Operation:
Open: Rotate the handwheel clockwise to raise the gate.
Close: Rotate counterclockwise to lower the gate and block flow.
